About Me

So hello world! My name is James Bottomley and thank you for reading my blog! So you want to know a little bit about me? Well step into my office…

Just kidding I don’t have an office! However, here’s a little about me. I’ve been a tech enthusiast since the age of 8. I’ve always been into computers, starting with coding very simple Geocities websites at a young age and playing online games such as Delta Force: Black Hawk Down and the famous RuneScape. Moving up to things such as Counter Strike and Half Life 2 to name a few.

At the age of 12 or 13 I built my first computer. I remember ordering all of my parts from MicroDirect and putting them all together, pressing the power button and nothing happened! Turned out I hadn’t connected the power button jumper… Oops.

Moving into starting an apprenticeship at the age of 16 and getting my first IT job at the age of 17. Started at the bottom working for a small IT firm providing small business support. Since then I’ve worked for a multitude of companies ranging from FTSE 100 to managed service providers. With each role, broadening my knowledge of IT until I jumped into the Cyber Security space, and haven’t looked back.

I don’t want there to be any premisconceptions, this blog is designed to help you, but also help me. Call it my own reference manual if you will, my own how-to’s. Ranging from anything such as how to do Linux server maintenance, setting up WSUS to hardening your infastructure, and everything in between.

I hope you enjoy it and if you do, feel free to reach out to me and tell me. I’d love to hear from you. My email address is [email protected]
