Hello World! I'm James Bottomley.
I'm a Cyber Security Architect based in the UK, thanks for stopping by!
How I started...
I've been a tech enthusiast since I was around 8 years old. Starting out coding simple GeoCities websites (showing my age, I know!) and spending hours online playing first person shooters such as Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, Counter Strike 1.6, and RuneScape.
By the age of 12, I was building my own computers—I remember ordering my first set of computer parts from Micro Direct and thinking 'what have I done!'. It worked out in the end, and when I pressed that power button and it powered up for the first time—bliss.
Career
I started at 16 at Peterborough College for a few months, and got bored with the pace and dropped out. The following February I completed an advanced apprenticeship (cramming a 2-year course into 5 1/2 months, and the rest is history!)
Since then I've worked for a multitude of companies from Managed Service Providers, to FTSE 100 giants, and most recently Global Technology consultancies, adding value to enterprises and bolstering Cyber Security capabilities.
About this Blog
I don't believe in gatekeeping knowledge; consider this as my open-source reference manual. A collection of guides and artifacts, as well as my personal thoughts around the state of Cyber Security and Technology.
Expect to find any of these, and many more things in between.
I hope you enjoy reading it, and if you do feel inclined—please reach out to me and let me know your honest thoughts. I'm always open to constructive criticism.
